Artell: "I'm Not Surprised Because We were Due One Like That"

16 March 2019

David Artell says he was not surprised that his Crewe Alexandra hit six goals against Crawley this afternoon because we have threatened to do that on a few more occasions this season!

Six different scorers helped Crewe to an emphatic 6-1 win and it could have been even more such was our dominance.

David told the club's official website: "Maybe the four goals in seven minutes masked a sluggish and sub-standard first half but goals change games. It was the reverse of what happened down there and the things that were going wide or were being saved went in.

"Crawley had a sticky seven minutes and we took full advantage and we didn't let them off the hook. I am not surprised that we have scored six because we have threatened to do that on a few occasions. We could have scored six at Cambridge on Tuesday, away at Crawley and away at Yeovil for example. I know people will say he can say that after we have but it is the truth.

"The pleasing thing was that we were ruthess and clincial today and we kept going looking for more. The irony is for me is that the two best players on the pitch didn't score for me today. Wintle and Finney were the best two players on the pitch. Ollie was terrific in his second full game at first time level and Wintle was in the right time at the right place all game. We are beginning to call him Direct Line because he is our insurance policy. He has a very bright future in the game that lad and he has been our best player over the last two months.

"Ollie has had to fight and we had to wait for his development. He wasn't ready at 17, 18 but we have waited for him and he has to keep going to have a career in the game. He has been consistent for the Under-23s and has scored 11 goals and he deserved his chance."
