'Extended Window May Well Help Out The Lower League Clubs'

19 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell believes that the extra extension for League One and League Two clubs offered in the summer transfer window may well prove to be beneficial.

The lower league clubs have until the beginning of September (Monday 2nd September) to conclude their summer transfer business and this differs from the FA Premier League and EFL Championship who have voted for the window to close on 8th August.

David told us: “I can see the two sides of the argument. On one hand you want everything done before the start of the season and your squad is in place. On the other hand, it may well be case that the Premier League and Championship clubs will be more open to loaning out players in that extended period.

“You can only name 18 players in the squad and maybe one or two may travel, so there may be a lot of players at bigger clubs that are not involved and they may be looking to get out and play some games.

“It may be that the extra few weeks we have in the window will help us out in the end. It may serve its purpose of trying to get a loan player in if we need to.”
