Johnson Fully Expected To Follow Young Teammates And Commit Future To The Club

12 June 2019

Young full-back Travis Johnson looks set to put pen to pen on a new contract with the club. Johnson will be the last of our players to commit their future to the club this summer with only George Ray and Jordan Bowery electing to move on.

Johnson’s progress saw him make the first-team bench last season and he has caught the eye in the second half of the season with his performances for the Development Squad.

Assistant manager Kenny Lunt updated us on the youngster’s situation: “We are hopeful that we are there with Travis. He has agreed to sign, so it is just a question of him coming in to sign the contract.

“We spoke to him and told him that this is the best place for him to develop. He still has some way to go.

“He has to try and get past Perry Ng, so he should be his best mate for as long as he is still here. He should watch him and learn what it takes to become a really good player. Only then we will get better himself.

“Travis is very athletic but he knows there are aspects of his game that he can improve on and that is why he is here and why he is the best place to develop.”
