Lunt: "We Will Go Right To The Final Minute Of The Window To Try And Improve The Squad"

12 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Kenny Lunt says that the club’s pursuit of good players will continue right up until the final minute of the transfer window. The Railwaymen have already signed defender Olly Lancashire and forward Daniel Powell and Lunt says that the staff will continue to try and do business to help improve the squad for the coming season.

The club’s assistant appreciates that the playing budget is low compared to a number of teams at League Two level but he insists that we will look to work quicker and smarter to get the right players and characters into the club.

He told crewealex.net: “The budget for wages is lower compared to other clubs in the division but we knew that.

“All we can do is work hard to bring in the best we can on the money we cannot afford. Nothing has changed there. If we think a player can improve us and we can afford him then we will do everything we can to attract him here. That is what we have managed to do with the two lads we have managed to bring in already and hopefully there will be a few more.

“We will keep on looking and keep on working at it. We have our targets and we will work right up until the final minute of the window if we have to.

“We want to create that competition for places again, so the players know they have to play well to stay in the team. We want them looking over their shoulders because that only helps with performance.

He added: “We are in no major rush and I am sure we will continue to have talks with the chairman and the board about what we think we need.”
