David Artell has not totally ruled out bringing in another goalkeeper to challenge for the number one spot this season - but the Crewe Alexandra boss says that any decision on that is low of his priority list.
After allowing Ben Garratt to depart the club this summer, Artell has opened up the contest for the number one shirt up to young Will Jaaskelainen or Dave Richards to claim heading into the new season.
Both goalkeepers will be presented with a chance to stake their claim during the pre-season. Richards started last season in the team and Jaaskelainen finished it. Garratt was the established number one throughout and made over 250 appearances for the club.
Artell told crewealex.net: “We have two good goalkeepers and I haven’t decided if there is going to be another one yet. I don’t know at the moment. We will see how they both get on.
“If I am being honest, that is not high on my priority list. It is way down the list in fact.
“We will just have to wait and see but I haven’t ruled out bringing in another one in.”
