"It Is A Balancing Act To Make Sure That Everyone Is Fit For The Start Of The Season"

Boss aims for injury free pre-season as players get set to return to full-time training.

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that the objective of pre-season is to make sure that 25 plus individuals remain injury free and ready to play 50 plus games.

The Crewe Alexandra players return to full-time training on Thursday and kick off their pre-season fixture programme against neighbours Nantwich Town on 6th July.

David told the club’s official website: “The players will be back in full-time on Thursday. They have all had a programme to work with over the summer and they have been in twice a week over the summer.

“They will have to be ready for what is ahead this season. They will have to be as fit as they were last season and some will have to be fitter than they were.

“There is nothing worse than losing a game in the last five minutes because you are not physically fit. It is getting that fine balance right because we want to push them as far as we can but we also want 25 individuals fit and ready to go at the start of August.

“We want them all injury free if we can and avoid those niggles. They were fit and sharp last season and we have to make sure they are again this year.”
