Artell: "Every Manager In The Lower Leagues Is Battling Against The Elements"

28 June 2019

David Artell admits that the playing budget always dictates your shopping habits during transfer windows but the Crewe Alexandra manager says it is the same for every club.

Crewe have already added Olly Lancashire and Daniel Powell to their squad this summer and Artell and his staff are diligently working behind the scenes to add even more new faces - but the Crewe Alexandra boss won’t be moaning about resources because that is the job of most lower league managers.

The boss explained to crewealex.net: “The budget dictates everything. It doesn’t matter if you are manager of Manchester United, Mansfield or Crewe, it is the same for everyone. You can only go for what you can afford at whatever level.

“It doesn’t matter if you are going for permanent signings, loans or trying to find trialists, it all comes into it. The finances dictate what type of player you can go for. You have to weigh everything up and live within your means.

“Some clubs won’t do that and will jeopardise the future of the club for short-term gains. I won’t do that.

“We have our eye on the ball and we will continue to work hard and see what is out there. If there is something that takes our fancy and we think we can afford it and will get that value for money then we would do business.”
