But boss says that the board have always been supportive about bringing new faces in if they can improve us...
David Artell says the club’s chairman and board have always been supportive when he has justified signing a player for the club.
The Crewe Alexandra manager says that the board always try and find the funds to sign players if they find the right ones to improve the squad and team.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Whenever I’ve said to the chairman ‘we definitely need this player’ and given him the reasons why and have justified it, he’s been brilliant. So we’ll see.
“The thing is we have a surplus comparing this year to last year – but that doesn’t mean I want to spend it all.
“Two, it might not all be there and, three, there might not be the quality to bring in.
“I’m quite happy with whatever hand I’m dealt. If we’ve less budget, more budget, fine. We’ll just do our job, there’s enough good players in this building.
“I’m relaxed. An extra £500,000 would help, we all know that, but we were two wins off the Play Offs last season, so are we miles away? No we’re not.
The boss added: “Would an extra £500,000 guarantee us a play-off place? You just don’t know. It doesn’t always work like that.”
