David Artell has told the club’s official website that the arrival of summer signing Daniel Powell will add real pace to the Crewe Alexandra front line. Powell has signed this summer from Northampton Town and will provide competition to one of the wide spots or through the middle.
Artell feels that the former MK Dons man possesses the pace to really stretch defences and get in behind.
The Crewe boss said: “We didn’t have anyone with that pace last season.
“We never lacked mobility. Jordan (Bowery) could shift, believe it or not Charlie Kirk can shift, proper quick. Owen Dale can too, he looks quick and Callum (Ainley) isn’t slow and can jink past players. He is a bit different and offers something different there.
“But we didn’t have someone who might go whoosh when there’s a clearance over the top, and Daniel can do that.
“Now they all have to fight to get in the team and we’ll go from there.
The boss added: “I’ve no idea what other offers were on the table for Daniel, but he’s bought into this club.
“We put a deal on the table that was the right deal. You have to be honest, I’d never lie to a player, and it’s paid off.”
