Boss: "I'm Certainly Not Panicking Over Recruitment"

25 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says he is certainly ‘not panicking’ over his summer recruitment.

The Alex boss has already bought in defender Olly Lancashire and forward Daniel Powell and he says that he is not rushing into bringing in more new faces if they do not match his criteria of quality and character.

Artell is still monitoring the summer transfer market carefully and he believes that there will be more activity in the next few weeks as club start to return to pre-season training on a full-time basis.

On recruitment David said to crewealex.net: “I am sure there will be more movement over the next three to four weeks than there has been in the last three weeks. Players will be looking at their mates going back into pre-season and think I need to get a club sorted.

“That is what tends to happen and the agents start to make more calls and then there are friendly games and they make some more because their clients are not playing.

“There seems to be good value for money at the start of the window and then towards the end. We have done some good business early on and we will be there at the end as well. That is not to say we won’t do something tomorrow if something came along that we fancied. If it did, we would have a go.

“I am certainly not panicking. We are in a good position where over the next few weeks, we can take stock and see where we are. We will see what we need or what can improve us and make a move if we think he will improve us. I am in no rush.”
