Artell: "No Truth In Callum Cooke Link"

25 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says that he has not made an enquiry for Peterborough United’s Callum Cooke since asking if he was available for loan back in January. The League One side had claimed that Crewe were still interested in the former Middlesbrough youngster but Artell says that is not true.

Although Artell rates our former loanee youngster highly, he says that the former Blackpool man would be out of our reach.

Artell told the club’s official website: "We spoke to Peterborough in January to see if he was available. They said yes he is, so we asked what they wanted.

"They gave us the figure and it was beyond us. That was the last time any of us have spoken to Peterborough.

"Is he garnering support for Callum to move elsewhere?

"Is he garnering support to offer Callum as bait for one of our players? I don't know, we haven't had any offers from any of our players from Peterborough.

"Or is he just being a chairman who likes to interact with fans? I don't know, you'd have to get down the A1 and ask him.

The boss added: "I've seen it, I'm aware of it, there's no truth in it. There's a motive for their chairman to do what he's done, but I don't know what it is."
