David Artell says that he and his staff are working behind the scenes to bring more new faces into the Football Club this summer. The Crewe Alexandra boss expects a ‘frenetic’ end to the transfer window with many players scrambling for clubs towards the end of the August.
Artell has told the club’s official website: “We are still working hard, we have meetings this week with various people, and we have got bits in the pipeline.
“Are we close to anything? Not yet, but we know the transfer window ‘comes back’ to clubs the later it gets.
“It doesn’t mean we will leave it until last minute but, equally, we are in no rush. We can bide our time and if there’s someone we fancy we’ll have a pop for them.
“I think there will be plenty of players this year scrambling around at the end of the window.
“It’ll be really frenetic in the last three or four weeks. There’s so many clubs you hear on the grapevine are reducing their budget, and that might mean there’s an extra two players for each squad that’s not employed.
“If that goes for 30 clubs, there could be an extra 30 or 60 players available, which is a lot.”
