"Every Manager Would Like To Get Their Ducks In Order As Soon As Possible"

24 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he will do everything possible to get his ‘ducks in order as soon as he can’ in readiness for the pre-season. Crewe kick off their pre-season campaign against near neighbours Nantwich Town on Saturday 6th July and Artell is aiming to add to the signings of Olly Lancashire and Daniel Powell before we kick-off our league campaign with a home game against Plymouth Argyle on 3rd August.

Artell told the club’s official website: “We have been busy within reason so far with the two we had got in but I think the lower league clubs are still waiting for the Championship clubs and some of the Premier League clubs to start spending their money.

“I think the Championship is usually the catalyst for the activity in the lower leagues and it is still relatively early. I am sure there will be a mad rush at the end as usual especially as their window closes before ours.

“All we can do is wait. At the moment, the clubs with money to spent at the top end of our league will get their main targets in. We cannot compete with say a Salford if it comes down to wages, so we just have to wait and see what comes available at a price we can afford.

“We will work hard to get our ducks in order as soon as we can. We want to get the right players on board as quickly as we can and we are working hard behind the scenes to do that.

“These things to take time and we can only work with the hand we are dealt. We are pleased with what we have been able to do so far and I haven’t been told otherwise that more cannot follow.”
