David Artell says he will continue to try and be as active and shrewd as he can in the transfer window this summer. The Alex boss has already acted quickly to sign the experienced defender Olly Lancashire and winger Daniel Powell but he is quick to stress that he will not be held to ransom by agents nor we will jeopardise the finances of the football club.
Artell told the club’s official website: “We will continue to see if we can get better in. We are always interested in players that could improve us or improve the competition.
“If we can attract them and if we can afford them then we do all we can to bring them in.
“What I won’t do is put the club in jeopardy financially. We have to live within our means and football has too many cases of clubs not doing just that. You only have to look at the problems at Bury, Macclesfield and at Bolton.
“We want to be as competitive as we can be but it is also my job to make sure that the fans are not put through what the likes of Bolton have had to go through. We wouldn’t wish that on any club and their supporters and that is why we try and run a tight ship.”
