Artell: "Sure The Championship Clubs Will Get The Ball Rolling"

17 June 2019

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell believes that the Championship clubs will be the catalyst for the transfer market in the lower leagues. The Alex boss appreciates that movement is still relatively slow in the summer window because players are still keeping their options open.

The Crewe boss expects that once the money filters down the divisions, there will be more movement in July and August.

He told crewealex.net: “The Championship clubs will be the driver when it comes to the lower leagues. When they start buying and selling then some of that money may filter down into League One and Two.

“There are some big clubs in the Championship but some of them have to get their own finances in order as well. There have been a few of them living beyond their means because they all have aspirations of making the Premier League or staying in the Championship. You only have to see what has happened at Bolton.

“I am sure if some of the Championship clubs start buying or selling then that will start the ball rolling further down. Hopefully there will be a snowball effect and it wouldn’t surprise me.”
