Richards: "Hart Was My Boyhood Hero"

18 July 2019

Dave Richards is battling for the number one spot alongside Will Jaaskelainen and there will not be a more stiff test for either of them that when Premier League side Burnley roll into South Cheshire this weekend.

With the number one shirt still very much up for grabs by all accounts both goalkeepers will be aiming to get game time against the Clarets and show what they can do against top quality opposition.

Richards knows his opposite number, Tom Heaton, from his early days as a professional at Cardiff City but he hails Joe Hart as his footballing idol growing up!

He told the club’s official website: “Nick Pope, Tom Heaton and Joe Hart – I want to see them and play against them. Especially Joe Hart, I’ve always looked up to him and he’s been my hero.

“I can learn lots, their techniques, how they get set, how they communicate and organise – you can see all that from the other end of the pitch.

“I was with Tom when I was a kid at Cardiff and we got on really well so it would be nice to see him again.

“It is always good to test yourself against top players and I am really looking forward to the game. It should be a decent crowd and an exciting game. I don’t know what the gaffer will do in regards to the goalkeepers and who will play or how long, so all I can do is train well for the rest of the week and see what happens.”
