Hunt: "All About Getting More Minutes Under Your Belt"

23 July 2019

Experienced defender Nicky Hunt has been there and done it throughout his extended career and he knows that wherever he features tonight, it will be another intriguing test against Whitchurch Alport or Bala Town.

Hunt performed admirably against Burnley at the weekend and the former Bolton, Bristol City, Derby and Notts County defender is hoping he can do well enough to secure a place for the visit of Plymouth on the opening day of the season.

The 35-year-old Hunt told the club’s official website: “I feel in good shape, well for a 35 year-old anyway and when you see Paul Green and Chris Porter at the front of the running in pre-season you have to keep going. Pre-season is always tough but I just want to play for as long as my body lets me.

“The aim of everyone is to try and get in the team for the Plymouth game on 3rd August. You have to take your chance, train properly and make sure you are ready.

“There is another chance to impress now against either Whitchurch or Bala. It will be another tough night, especially if it is warm as it is expected to be. It is always about getting minutes under your belt and I always try to get two or three 90 minutes during pre-season so I am on course to do that.

Nicky added: “We will push ourselves in the last few friendlies to make sure we are peaking for the visit of Plymouth on the opening day and I’m sure all the lads will get where they want to be fitness wise.”
