Young Connor Heath was handed his chance in Saturday’s friendly at Altrincham after training well over the past seven days in the build up to the game.
Heath was a late inclusion in the starting line-up due to a late injury to Chris Porter. The experienced striker was not risked due to some soreness in his knee and Heath led the line in the 6-0 win over Alty.
David told the club’s official website: “Connor will be the first to admit that he found it really tough when he stepped up into the first team. Those first ten days or so are tougher physically and I would imagine he has been surprised by how far he can push his body.
“He has come through it and he trained ever so well last week, so he got his chance at Altrincham. He earned that chance.
“He is well equipped to play different roles and we tried him up there because he has always scored goals for the youth team. He is a bit more mobile than Chris, so he could bring a different dynamic to the position, but it is still very early days with him.”
