David Artell says that Oli Finney has to keep finding the back of the net to enhance his chances of holding down a regular place in the starting XI. Finney sprung off the bench at Altrincham on Saturday to score a hat-trick inside half an hour in a comfortable 6-0 win.

Artell told the club’s official website: “It was a real shot in the arm for him to come on and score a hat-trick.

“Kenny spoke with him on Friday and I spoke to him before about what he needs to do to establish himself in the team more often than last season.

“He has been going well, extremely well and he just has to carry that on. I don’t see him as a bit part player. I see him as a first team player.

“There are areas of his game he can improve on and he knows that. He knows what it will take to make sure he is starting more games and on the pitch more this season.

He added: “Confidence is only really a thought and no-one has to score goals to feel confident. It is just a feeling in your mind and Oli just has to keep on doing what he is doing and if he does then he will get plenty of goals anyway.”
