Artell Pleased That Wrexham Asked Us Questions Ahead Of Season Opener

27 July 2019

David Artell says that Wrexham asked more questions than anyone else in our pre-season build up but he was pleased that we came through to win 1-0 thanks to Charlie Kirk’s solo goal on 74 minutes.

Crewe deservedly won our final pre-season fixture at the Racecourse Ground and the Alex boss was pleased with what proved to be another challenging 90 minutes against the National League side.

David told the club’s official website: “It was another 1-0 win and clean-sheet, so in that respect it was similar to last week. We were not as fluent in possession and we could have had more shots from 18 and 20 yards than we did.

“They had a couple of chances as well. They dinked one across the penalty area and I don’t really know if Hooper could have done better with his chance.

“It was another good work out, really good, and Wrexham asked more questions than anyone in the pre-season. It was pleasing.

“We looked fitter in the last 20 minutes or so and it proved it with the goal from Charlie. We had kept the ball well and made them chase us about.

“The acid test will be next weekend but then that is only one game, win or lose. Regardless of the result next weekend, it is about 46 league games and hopefully about ten cup games, not just the opening day of the season.

“Last year we won 6-0 against Morecambe and that didn’t define our season. A few games later we lost 6-0 at Colchester. We will have more of an idea after about 10 games and that is the truth. “
