David Artell says that his mobile phone never stops with agents and players constantly ringing in the hope of a trial or a possible move. The Alex boss admits that he has become even busier screening calls since the club returned to full-time training and that he was even approached by a player hoping for a trial in a local supermarket car park!

David told crewealex.net: “The phone never stops. I had a call at twenty to nine the other night when I was out walking the dog from an agent. I didn’t mind that too much because Love Island was coming on in our house and I cannot stand that!

“It is bad enough when the lads come in and are talking about who mugged off who or whatever.

“I get calls first thing in the morning. I had two before 8 o'clock and it just keeps on going. The agents are getting busier because there is only a month before the season starts.

“I was getting some breakfast cereal for the players the other day and a lad approached me in the car park. He said he was a player and that I’d spoken to his agent and all that. We said to his agent that he wasn’t quite what we were looking for but he was still prepared to do his pitch in a supermarket car park."

The Crewe boss added: “You get offered various players and all you can do is keep plucking away and discarding what we don’t need. We will just have to see how it pans out.”
