David Artell was pleased with another useful run out against a strong looking Burnley side in our latest pre-season outing. Crewe won 1-0 thanks to  well taken finish by Charlie Kirk and we kept possession really well and had the better of the chances over the 90 minutes. 

Following the 1-0 win over Burnley, the Crewe boss told the club’s official website: “It was a really good work out and they asked us some different questions. We got what we wanted out of it and I thought we looked sharp against some top Premier League players, who make you work hard.

“We are a week ahead of them and at this stage of pre-season that makes a big difference. I am sure those who saw us at Nantwich thought we were a million miles off where we were a week later at Altrincham and Burnley will be the same. Whoever they play next week will see a different Burnley.

“Saying that I was pleased with the afternoon and it allowed some of the players to get another 90 minutes under their belt. The fact that they did doesn’t mean that this is the team to start against Plymouth. Far from it. We need 20 plus this season and not just 11 and there are places still up for grabs. 

“Charlie took his goal really well and credit to him. He owns that area of that pitch and when he gets in there you think he will score. I am always confident that he will score when he gets in there.

“I never felt he was not going to score and that is what he has to do on a regular basis for us this season.

“Now we have two games on Tuesday and then Wrexham next Saturday and they will ask us different questions. They will probably load the box more than Burnley did but we have to have the mindset to go there and perform. It will be another test for us in a different way.”
