Whelan Decision Was A Tough Call To Make

9 January 2019

David Artell has told the club’s official website that the decision not to try and extend Corey Whelan’s loan deal with us until the end of the season was a tough one.

Artell allowed the right-back to return to Liverpool after his current loan agreement expired this week and he hailed the players’ professionalism and attitude as ‘terrific’ during his return to Gresty Road – but the Alex boss and his support staff firmly believe that they can get better in the January transfer window.

The Crewe boss said: “Whether to try and keep Corey was not an easy decision. It wasn’t straight forward and it was close to us asking if we could extend the loan. He has done well for us and it was a tough call.

“In end it came down to us believing we can get better in January. It was as simple as that. We felt we could improve in that area and we will do our best to get one that is.”
