Supporters Group: The Railwaymen Open Letter

23 January 2019

'To everyone connected to Crewe Alexandra,

Happy New Year everyone. 2018 was a historic year for The Railwaymen, having formed with an open mind and a certain amount of trepidation. The tremendous support we received from everybody at the football club has ensured we got off to a successful start and we are looking forward to working with you in 2019, to help secure the future of Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

Since the groups successful launch back in July, its been a busy 6 months for The Railwaymen. The group are now in constant structured dialogue with all areas of the football club from the board, office staff and the management setup and hope to meet members of the Soccer Centre to help with the community side of the club in the coming weeks. At the groups last open meeting, chairman Mark Beavan announced the group had been in dialogue with Norman Hassall and plans are in place to meet up with Norman very shortly.

The Railwaymen are official members of the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) and Dave Tomlinson from our management committee is on the national council as a representative for Sandbach Travelling Alex and all Crewe Alexandra fans and we will provide updates on any FSF news via our website.

We have held 2 fans open events and welcomed Luke Murphy and David Artell as our guests. Feedback from these events have been very encouraging and we will host more throughout 2019. We assisted in a supporters’ flag day initiative back in September and hosted our very own scarf day. Both events were greatly received by the club and the fans and these are the type of fan-based initiatives we would like to encourage.

The group are also delighted to announce 2 new major projects. Next month will see the official launch of the Ex-Player Association (more information will be announced shortly) and the group will be running a foodbank at The Alexandra Stadium on the first home game of each month starting in March v Northampton Town (02-03) and against Notts County on (13-04). We will get more information out about the foodbank over the next few weeks via our website and social media.
