Sterry: "I Know I Have Fight On To Get In The Team"

30 January 2019

The on-loan defender Jamie Sterry says he did not hesitate to re-join Crewe Alexandra for the exciting run-in once he knew that David Artell was back in for him.

Artell bolstered his squad options with the signing of Sterry from Newcastle United and the right full-back hopes to offer that competition for places to help keep our recent consistency going.

Sterry spent the second half of last season on loan and helped the club finish strongly and now the 23-year-old is hoping to do so again and help us finish as high as possible in League Two.

Jamie told the club’s official website: “When I knew I was available to come back I said to my agent straight away ‘I want to come back’.

“It’s a great club really. Everyone around is fantastic, the manager is really good, the chairman is good, and when I knew my missus could move offices and come down here and work half the week, that was important too.

“This time I won’t be living in a hotel for four or five months which is quite difficult, I’m going to get a house and bring my dogs down as well which will be good.

“People are different but, for me, I’m all about family and friends, so it will help me a lot to be able to stay happy.

“If you don’t play it’s even harder when you are by yourself, everyone will realise that, especially looking at the four walls in a hotel.

“But this will be really good. And the good football is another reason I wanted to come back to Crewe, rather than just kicking it long. That’s not really what I like to do.”

He added: “I want to play some football, that’s the main thing.

“All I can do is work as hard as I can and try and catch the eye of the manager. I know it will be tough because they have been winning a few games.”
