The ankle injury sustained by James Jones at Stadium MK could result in a re-think to David Artell’s recruitment plans in the last week of the January window.
The Alex boss did not rule out the possibility of bringing in another midfield player before next Thursday’s deadline as he stressed that we yesterday ‘we are one or two injuries away from playing players out of position’.
Jones, 24, is expected to be out for a number of weeks after suffering ligament damage and although Paul Green is improving from his own ankle injury, the Alex boss may have to turn to youngsters Ollie Finney or Tom Lowery. The boss would certainly like the luxury of another one.
David Artell told crewealex.net: “We have players here who can play in various positions because they have been brought up here not to be pigeon-holed into one position. They are not necessary a good right-back, centre-half or centre midfielder but a good all round footballer.
“Losing Jonah is a blow because he was in terrific form and perhaps it has changed our thinking when it comes to another midfield player. I feel we can cope with any loss at the moment but we cannot afford too many more.”
