Hunt: "We Have To Make Home Advtantage Count"

10 January 2019

Nicky Hunt previews the visit of FA Cup giant killer Newport County.

Veteran defender Nicky Hunt is hoping that the club’s impressive home form continues against Newport County this weekend. Hunt was recalled to the starting XI at Morecambe last week due to an injury to Eddie Nolan and the fact that Corey Whelan had been informed that his loan deal from Liverpool would not be extended.

Hunt partnered Ray in the centre of the defence and not for the first time, the former Bolton, Bristol City and Birmingham defender didn’t let us down.

Hunt has been used sparingly by boss David Artell this season, but the experienced 35-year-old is hoping he will get another opportunity to start against the FA Cup giant killers this weekend.

Hunt told iFollow the Alex: “Our home form has been good. We haven’t lost many and kept a lot of clean-sheets but it hasn’t quite happened for us like that away from home.

“I don’t know if it is a confidence thing and us feeling more comfortable when we play at home. Maybe we play with a bit more freedom at home I don’t know, but we need to take that into the away games.

“We have a home game again this weekend against Newport and it is important we get back to winning ways after losing at Bury and taking a point at Morecambe last week.

“Newport is always a tough game and they will have great confidence after their cup win over Leicester. It was a great result for them.

“We lost 1-0 down there and it was a tough game, especially in the conditions, but we had enough chances not to have lost and we know that if we play like we can then we can beat anyone in this league. “
