Boss: "We Played With Purpose And Intent"

21 January 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says his side got their just rewards at Stadium MK on Saturday because we played with a real intent to our play. The Railwaymen were good value for their 1-0 win against Paul Tisdale's promotion-hunting side and Artell believes that they executed the game plan to perfection to record just our second away win of the season.

Charlie Kirk struck the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute to give Crewe three deserved points and our first every victory at the impressive stadium.

Following the 1-0 win, Artell said: “It was a different game from the Newport one, which was more physical but we stood up to them and came through.

“MK Dons play a lot more football than a Newport County and it made for a different type of game. They get after you all the same and don’t just let you play, but what pleased me most was the way we passed the ball and moved it around.

“I thought we played with more confidence and belief. There was a real intent to our play. We played with aggression and I don’t mean we went around kicking people but instead played with a real purpose.

“They have got that in them. They are not 18 anymore and tactically naïve. They understood how we set-up and what we wanted to do and they went out and did it.”
