Boss Proud Of Academy Players Ratio In His Team

24 January 2019

David Artell says that no other club in the country gets anywhere near promoting young players in the first-team than Crewe. The Alex boss has taken great pride in the fact that the majority of his match day squads are usually made up of Academy graduates and our current ratio of 7.7 Academy graduates in the starting XI puts us well clear of the rest.

The Crewe boss, who worked as Academy manager, before succeeding Steve Davis as manager said: “Our current average is 7.7 in the starting eleven and our bench is usually made up mostly of young players that have come through the Academy.

“There is nobody in the country who gets close to those ratios. No one gets even close, nowhere near, and it is something we take great pride in here.

“That is credit to Aidan (Callan), who is now the Academy manager and all the coaching staff here who keep that development going. That have to work exceptionally hard to achieve what we do. “
