Artell: "It Was A Terrific Result For Us"

26 January 2019

David Artell hailed a ‘terrific result’ against a tough Colchester United side this evening. His Crewe Alexandra side had to come back from 1-0 down at half-time to win our third straight win and stretch our run to just one defeat in seven. The three points moves us to 11th in the league table.

Second half goals from Charlie Kirk two minutes into the second period and Eddie Nolan with just three minutes remaining sealed the points.

David told the club’s official website: “It was a terrific result. It was two good teams and a bit cagey at times but I think we ground them down and that is a great attribute to have in League Two.

“There wasn’t the free flowing football but I think that was because of the quality of the two teams, cancelling each other out. You can see that John McGreal has set them really well; they are a tough nut to crack.

“I said that if we went in at the break, drawing or winning then we would win the game. At 1-0 down there was no need to panic because we were still very much in the game. They have conceded goals in the second half, they conceded three last weekend for example and that must have been fresh in their minds.

“We have scored goals from crosses and the longer the game went on, the more likely we looked to go on and win it. Greenie put it on a plate for Eddie, who I thought was absolutely magnificent.

"We matched them physically and ground them down. Our quality in our passing came through and in the last 20 minutes I thought there was only one winner.

“It was a terrific result and a terrific performance from us but it is just the start.

He added: “We are on 41 points and that is nothing to write home about, 41 points is it? We should have had more points than that but the foundations are there and we are heading in the right direction. The belief is there and it has to continue. “
