Ainley: "Comebacks Have Restored Belief"

16 January 2019

Callum Ainley believes that the belief and confidence is returning to the Crewe Alexandra dressing room after a promising points return over Christmas and the New Year.

Ainley’s dramatic late winner against Newport County on Saturday now means that the Railwaymen have accumulated 10 points from a possible 15.

The youngster, who was recalled to the starting line-up ahead of combative midfielder Paul Green (ankle injury) for the visit of the Exiles says that the result over Lincoln City on Boxing Day and the late comebacks against Morecambe and Newport have us heading in the right direction.

Ainley told the club’s official website: "We don't usually come back, especially that late.

"I think it was a lot different to what we have done in the past and it will only help us.

"It makes you believe that, however long is left, you're always going to have that one chance, that one shot to get something.

"We had about six or seven goes at it, and it's fallen back to me in the end. My legs were going a bit, it was in the last two minutes of the game.

"I just hit it as hard as I could and I was happy to see it go in. It's great to come back in that way and get three points."
