David Artell, the Crewe Alexandra manager, is full of admiration for the job Matt Taylor has achieved at Exeter after succeeding the long-serving Paul Tisdale as manager in the summer.
Taylor earned his promotion from the club’s Under-23 Development squad and it was some act to follow as Tisdale will go down as one of the most successful managers in the club’s history after taking them up from the non-league and into League One.
He narrowly missed out on reaching the third tier again with the club losing two play-off finals on the trot to Blackpool and Coventry respectively.
Ahead of our fixture at Gresty Road, Artell said: “Matt has stepped up at Exeter and he has done a terrific job. They are a good side and are right in the mix once again.
“They have a well-established group of players, who know the league. They have some real quality up top, some real experience at the back and a mixture of both in the middle. It will be another tough game regardless of who is fit for them or not.
“They have won two, drawn one and lost one of their last four and we have drawn two, won two, and everyone is saying we are on a terrific run, so there isn’t much between us.
“All we can do is be as fully prepared as we can be and have the full belief that we can get another result at home.”
