Preview: Alex Set For Macclesfield Derby Clash

8 February 2019

Crewe Alexandra are set to be backed by their biggest away following of the season at Macclesfield Town after 1,500 tickets were pre-sold to Alex fans.

Although last weekend's game was postponed due to a frozen pitch, confidence is high as The Alex are on a run of three straight victories & five wins in the last seven games.

It won't be an easy game at Moss Rose though - the Alex have never won a league game there in three previous attempts & under new manager Sol Campbell, the Silkmen have lost just one of their last six on their home turf.

Date: Saturday 9 February 2019

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Venue: The Moss Rose

Previous Meeting at Host Club: Macclesfield 2-2 Crewe (Apr 2012)

Referee: Geoff Eltringham (P25, Y87, R4)

Crewe: Other than the long term absentee James Jones, the Alex have a clean bill of health heading into the Cheshire derby with the Silkmen.

Fully rested up after two weeks without a game, the Alex team could come out all guns blazing in front of a packed away end.

Artell has two new faces in his squad from the last match, Jamie Sterry & Aaron Taylor-Sinclair joining on loan before the end of the transfer window. The boss must now decide if he alters his side to include his newbies or stick with the lads who took three points from Newport, MK Dons & Colchester.

Macclesfield: The Silkmen come into the game off the back of a 3-1 defeat at Mansfield last weekend, but played well as David Artell & Kenny Lunt watched on from the stands.

Although their away form remains mixed, Macc have been formidable at home since Sol Campbell was named manager in November.

Oldham were the last visitors to the Moss Rose, and took a big away following, but lost 2-1 despite taking the lead inside the first minute.
