Porter: "Now We Have To Go Again"

26 February 2019

Leading scorer, Chris Porter, says Crewe now have to go on another extended run to give us a chance of nicking a play-off place.

Crewe Alexandra’s in-form striker, Chris Porter felt it was a missed opportunity on Saturday to claw back some points on one of the teams above us. Crewe’s superb seven-game unbeaten run came to an end at Gresty Road with Exeter City winning 2-1 – a result that saw them leap frog Carlisle United into one of the play-off spots.

Porter headed home his 11th goal of the season to even things up just after half time but Crewe couldn’t build on that and would suffer a rare home defeat to an impressive Exeter side.

Porter, who has now scored eight goals in his last 11 games, said: “It was a tough one to take (on Saturday), it was a big game I thought. We were slightly under par compared to what we have been at home, they are a good team but we seemed lethargic.

“Everyone seemed to be slow-reacting to stuff, everything seemed to drop to them, but hopefully we will put it right this weekend.

“We are still brimming with confidence, what's that one loss in eight? There's no reason we can't carry on.

“It's a tough ask, a lot of wins are needed to get into the Play Offs, we need eight or possibly nine, but there's no reason we can't do it.

“It's not impossible, the lads will give it everything.

Chris added: “It was a great run, it's the sort of run we need to go on again.”
