Macclesfield Have More Than A Fighting Chance Of Staying Up Now

8 February 2019

Alex boss says Macclesfield are now heading in the right direction under Sol Campbell.

David Artell believes that the appointment of Sol Campbell as manager of Macclesfield Town has given our Cheshire neighbours ‘a great chance’ of escaping the drop.

Campbell replaced Mark Yates as manager of the Silkmen back in late November and has won four of his 12 games in charge and drawing another three to lift them off the bottom. They currently trail Morecambe by two points as they aim to remove themselves from the drop zone.

The Crewe boss has admired the work Sol Campbell has already achieved at Moss Rose. He said: “Sol has come in there and I would say has given them a great chance of staying up.

“I wouldn’t say that they were not competitive before he came in because that would be a disservice to the previous manager, but Sol has come in and they have a great chance in the second half of the season.

“I’ve watched them and seen videos of them under Sol and they are a far better team now than they were earlier in the season when we beat them.

“Macclesfield are a good team. You don’t win the Conference or promotion from that league unless you are a good side. There are some big clubs in that division and the ones that come up next this year will be good sides as well.

“I watched them at Mansfield last week and if they had won 3-1 instead then no-one could have complained because they played well and had chances. They could quite easily have got the three points last week and we know it will be a tough game.”
