Green: "Hopefully It Will Be Third Time Lucky For Us"

12 February 2019

Alex midfielder, Paul Green, says that Crewe Alexandra owe Carlisle United one this evening after we have been on the receiving end of two 1-0 defeats this season.

Green suffered a severe knee injury in the 1-0 defeat Brunton Park back in August following his accidental clash with the Carlisle United goalkeeper that day Joe Fryer. Sadly, Fryer also suffered a broken leg.

Crewe were also knocked out of the FA Cup at the first round stage following Jamie Devitt’s persistence in blocking a Ben Garratt shot late on. He got enough on his clearance to deflect it home for the only goal of the game at Gresty Road.

Ahead of tonight’ clash at Gresty Road, Green told crewealex.net: “It should be another good game because it is two teams bang on form. Our home record is good and we have lost one in eight games. Carlisle are on a great run and will want to get into the top three if they can.

“We are playing well and scoring goals. We scored three on Saturday and that should have been enough to have won the game. We made some mistakes, which hasn’t been like us.

“We look a threat though and when you score goals then you usually win games, so it is another game to look forward to.

“Carlisle are on a great run at the moment and they are a good side, but we felt we were in both games against them and a bit unfortunate not to have got something in both. We had chances at their place but didn’t take them and then a ball over the top has done us on the day.

“There was nothing in the Cup game really and it looked like ending in a draw but their lad has closed Ben (Garratt) down and it has hit him and gone in.

“So, we owe them one but we know it will be a tough one against a good side. Hopefully it will be third time lucky for us.”
