Boss Expects Interest In His Players This Summer If We Can Become Successful

19 February 2019

League position usually determines transfer interest.

David Artell firmly believes that we have not sold any of other young assets over the last couple of transfer windows because of our league position.

The Alex boss feels that having a successful season and finishing as high as possible will only alert potential suitors because that is the nature of football.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “Ultimately football and professional sport is about having that winning mentality. You have to win.

“People ask me why we haven’t sold a player in the last 18 months and I say the same thing, it is because we haven’t finished high enough in the league. We have been closer to the bottom than the top, so hopefully that will change this season.

“When you finish in the top half, seventh or our promoted, clubs notice your players even more. It is the nature of the game to look at players who are playing in successful teams. That is the truth. We had good players last season but we were struggling at the bottom until we ended the season well and finished 15th.

“When a club and their owner are prepared to hand over their hard earned cash they would rather do it for someone in 7th place rather than 17th. That is the football world, so to develop that winning mindset and being a success is very powerful.”
