Artell: "Our Lads Were Terrific And Deserved To Win"

12 February 2019

David Artell was absolutely delighted with his players as they beat an in-form Carlisle United at the Alexandra Stadium this evening. Goals from Chris Porter and the Alex substitute, Shaun Miller, sealed three points for the Alex. Carlisle’s right-back, Gary Miller, had drawn the visitors’ level after they had gone down to ten men following Jamie Devitt’s red card for kicking Perry Ng in the face in the first 19 minutes.

David told the club’s official website: “It was one of the best games I’ve seen here this season. It is up there with the MK Dons and a few others because it was two good teams, two committed teams. One team was committed to playing football and the other in trying to kick us in the air. I thought we handled that really well.

“We were going to have more of the ball because of Jamie Devitt’s deserved red card and it can be difficult to play against ten men. How many times have you seen ten men go on to win? I was part of a team that were 3-1 down to Crewe and won 4-3 with ten men.

“We controlled the game really well and I thought the best team won. The best team won tonight and they are a good team. We knew that but they were second best tonight and I thought our lads were terrific.

“We are on a decent run but its 44 points and nothing to write home about still. We have to keep on going and now we head to Oldham.”
