Artell Praise For 'Class Fans'

13 February 2019

David Artell says that the fans backing of Perry Ng in last night's 2-1 win over Carlisle shows that we are as one.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says the club's supporters were class in their backing of Perry Ng last night.

Ng was booed every time he touched the ball by the Carlisle United contingent after he was involved in the incident which saw their playmaker Jamie Devitt sent-off inside 20 minutes. Devitt kicked a grounded Ng in the face and deservedly saw red.

Crewe went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Chris Porter and sub Shaun Miller.

The Crewe fans played their part by cheering every time Ng touched it in response to the negative cheer and it was an interesting subplot to an entertaining game at Gresty Road. Ng’s mature performance at right-back saw him also named man-of-the-match by the match sponsors.

Artell says that the part the fans paid again cannot be underestimated.

The Crewe boss said after our 2-1 win: "I thought the fans were class. They were booing Perry, and our fans were cheering him, what a terrific thing that is.

"You’ve got a young player there, he might be thinking this is getting on top of me, he might be doubting himself, you don’t know.

"And our fans are going ‘you are doing all right pal, you’re doing all right lad’ and cheering every touch he made.

"And whoever thought of naming him man of the match - genius!

"That’s what it’s about. That’s what I’m about, what this club is about, we are as one."
