Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell believes that he has created his best squad of players since taking over the job, but he stresses that there is a lot more to come from this group.
Crewe’s fantastic run since a Boxing Day win over league leaders, Lincoln City, has given us an outside chance of a play-off place. Crewe host 8th placed Exeter this weekend on the back of just one defeat from our last ten matches.
A 1-1 draw with Oldham stretched our unbeaten run to seven games and Artell says it remains the target to try and break into the top seven.
David told crewealex.net: “I would say this is the best squad I have had but I firmly believe there is a lot more to come from them.
“I’ve said it a few times but it is that one step at a time. The next step is to make sure we get in that top 10 and then be one of those four clubs who will contest the play-offs. That has to be the target.
“The players are gaining confidence and belief because they have shown what they are capable of. They know and understand how effective they can be and they have to keep it going.
“They have 13 games left and they have to play as if they are League One players already, show they are the best players and see where that can take them.”
