Artell Rightly Defends His Players After Small Section Boo

25 February 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell was disappointed with the reaction his team received from a minority of supporters as they left the pitch at half-time on Saturday.

The Crewe Alexandra boss couldn’t believe that he could hear a few boos as the teams made their way to the tunnel.

Crewe trailed 1-0 thanks to a deflected goal off Chris Porter and had arguably controlled much of the first 45 minutes. Porter duly scored three minutes into the second half with a fantastic climb and header, but an impressive Exeter City side went on to win the game 2-1and dent our own play-off hopes.

The manager was also unhappy that those making way in the second half, Charlie Kirk and Jordan Bowery, were also targeted by a small section of the support.

Following the 2-1 defeat, Artell told us: “We got booed off at half-time! Well they can stay away for all I care, if they are not happy with our home form. It was the best in the league before today!

"They want their heads testing, If they want to boo Jordan  or Kirky they want to give their head a wobble.

"Have they never had a bad day at work? I'm sure they have. I’ll come and boo in their ear over their computer or assembly line or whatever. They don’t need to do it.

"They are entitled to their opinion, of course they are. But I think the lads have credit in their bank and I’m going to stand here and defend them until I get told not to.”
