Artell Backs His Goalkeeper After Mistakes

11 February 2019

David Artell has backed his number one goalkeeper, Ben Garratt, after his individual mistakes cost us three points at Moss Rose.

Artell was quick to defend his stopper, stating that he has ‘won us many points’ this season.

Garratt held his hands up following the 3-3 draw with our Cheshire rivals, Macclesfield Town, and knows that those uncharacteristic errors was the deciding factor in a game we should have won.

The Crewe boss said of his goalkeeper: “I will talk to Ben and tell him it’s a one off. He knows.

“Rest assured though we has won us points this season. By and large he has done really well and has had a good season.

“He hasn’t made too many mistakes. He kicked one against Jamie Devitt for the goal in the FA Cup but I cannot remember too many more.

He added: “Ben is a level headed lad. He doesn’t get carried away too much when he plays well or makes a fantastic save and he doesn’t beat himself up after a mistake either. It is all about him blocking it out and getting on with it.”
