The Club Are Reaping The Rewards For Sticking With Finney

23 December 2019

Oli Finney has to continue to get into goalscoring positions and finishing chances if he is to retain his place in the Crewe Alexandra starting XI. The midfielder finished off a splendid team goal to score the second goal in our superb 5-1 away win at Stevenage at the weekend. It took his personal tally to four goals for the season and Artell says that Finney has waited patiently for his opportunities at first-team level.

Following his headed goal at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday, Artell told crewealex.net: “Oli has something like four goals in 12 starts and that is not bad for a midfielder. If he keeps that going then my phone will be ringing in the summer. I will turn it off like!

“Oli is a good player and I’ve said it before, he has to wait patiently for his chance. We had to wait for him to develop, probably more than some of the others but we have stuck with him and we are now reaping the rewards.

“The football club deserves credit for sticking with him as well and he deserves credit for being a good pro and being eager to learn and improve.”
