Powell:"Stevenage Win Made For A Good Christmas But We Quickly Move On"

24 December 2019

Daniel Powell says that our emphatic 5-1 win over Stevenage that has seen us leap frog over Cheltenham Town into third place in the table has made it a good Christmas but the Alex winger says that no-one is getting carried away.

Powell scored his second goal for the club at the Lamex Stadium and he believes that when we click like that, it is difficult for other clubs at this level to cope with us.

Ahead of the Boxing Day clash at Salford, Powell told the club’s official website: “We have been working on our attacking and making better decisions in the final third and it really clicked at Stevenage.

“We had a good week in training and Stevenage were the unfortunate team to be on the end of it. We controlled the game and created a lot of chances and really could have scored more than the five we did.

“When we click like that then we can tear teams apart and Stevenage is a tough place to go but we showed how good we are.

“It meant we had a nice Christmas but we have had to prepare for Salford on Boxing Day. We have been in Christmas Eve and will be in Christmas Day to be ready.

“What we have done in the first half of the season gives us a chance. Now we have got to do the same again but it is not as simple as that.

“The players don’t really talk about promotion. The manager mentions it every now again and we are aware of what the aim is, but our feet are firmly on the ground. No one gets carried away. We have young players and we cannot get carried away.

“If we do play as well as we can and score goals we have a great chance. We know that.”
