"Charlie Has Become A Terrific Player For Us"

18 December 2019

Boss praise for potential match winner Kirk.

David Artell says that our sponsors got it spot on when they awarded their Man-of-The-Match award to Charlie Kirk on Saturday. The decision was met with a few uncalled for grumbles from the Gresty Road crowd but Artell was quick to jump to the defence of our potential match winner.

Kirk created the opening goal from Chuma Anene with a delightful touch and low cross and he so nearly won the game for the Railwaymen when he rocked the Mansfield post with a tremendous effort.

Artell said of youngster Kirk: “Charlie has come on leaps and bounds. He keeps getting in. He set up another goal on Saturday and he hit the post.

“I thought he was the best player on the pitch on Saturday. I agreed with the man-of-the-match award from the supporters. They were spot on and someone told me there were a few grumbles when it was announced.

“Let me tell you if the fans think that anyone should have been Man-of-the-Match than Charlie or perhaps Will for making two great saves to deny Nicky Maynard then they should be off to Specsavers.

“Charlie was the most likely to come up with something to win the game. He has created a goal and was the only player on the pitch to do that. A Mansfield player didn’t create their goal, we did. None of his team mates did. Should he have created one or two more, maybe? But no one else did.

The boss added: “He has developed into a terrific player and he is working his socks off for the Football Club and his teammates and whilst he is doing that then I will back him 100%.”
