Boss Prepared To Give Porter Time

20 December 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he will give his leading marksman Chris Porter as long as he possibly can before deciding to involve him or not this weekend at Stevenage.

Porter, who has hit 10 goals this season, missed last weekend’s draw with Mansfield after suffering a slight hamstring strain against Eastleigh in the FA Cup. His replacement, Chuma Anene, grabbed his chance with both hands by scoring a brace in the Cup and then opening the scoring in the 1-1 draw with the Stags.

Porter has had a further injection to ease the pain in the muscle and Artel says he will see how he is today before deciding his move.

Artell said: “We will see how Chris is today after training. We’ll just have to see how things have settled down after the injection. It has certainly improved things and all we can do is wait.

“Chuma has come in and scored three goals in two games, so we’ll see how he performs today in training as well.”
