David Artell revealed that Tom Lowery was suffering from a sickness bug and that is why he was replaced just after half time against Mansfield at the weekend.
The midfielder wanted to give it as long as possible but Artell did not take any chances with his influential playmaker and replaced him with James Jones just minutes into the second period.
Lowery was seen holding his ankle just before the interval after going into a tackle with Neal Bishop but Artell said that the knock was nothing to do with the forced changed.
It is thought that Lowery, who has scored five goals this season, will be fine to travel to Stevenage at the end of the week.
David told us: “Tom was ill. He had been throwing up and he did well to play for as long as he did. Tom being Tom was saying ‘he was fine’ when we took him off, but he has thrown up again and he wasn’t right.
“There was little point taking any risk with him and making him feel even worse than he did. He should be fine.”
