U23 Report: QPR 0-2 Crewe

12 August 2019

Robbins & Reilly on target as Alex Morris' side start with a win

Crewe Alexandra Under 23s began their 2019/20 season with three Professional Development League 2 points in London against Queens Park Rangers.

Under 18 Joe Robbins notched a goal in the first half before regular U23 scorer Lewis Reilly converted a poachers effort just after half-time to record a notable victory over the R's in the capital.

It was in the 20th minute when Crewe hit the front, Robbins striking a half-volley into the net to put Alex Morris' side in control after an even opening to the contest.

The Alex defended stoutly throughout & extended the advantage five minutes into the second half. QPR keeper Brzozowski parried Connor Heath's strike, but Reilly was lurking to score the rebound from close range.

Heath had the chance to wrap the game up on 72 when he raced through one-on-one, but Brzozowski saved the effort.

QPR had plenty of the ball & did lots of probing in the final stages in their hunt for a route back into the game, but the young Alex charges did well to hold off their hosts & record the victory & clean sheet.

Crewe: Booth, Johnson, Mbulu, Sass-Davies, Adebisi, Offord, Lundstram, Robbins, Griffiths, Reilly, Heath
