Preview: Maiden Away Day At Oldham Awaits

9 August 2019

Oldham Athletic are first up on the road for Crewe Alexandra as the 2019/20 away day experience gets underway.

Fans, management & players alike will be hoping for a much improved season away from Gresty Road this time around with just four wins from 23 games recorded last season in Sky Bet League Two.

That record had the Alex positioned in 22nd place in the table on away form alone, so it's clear Dave Artell has marked it as a key area for improvement for this time around.

The Latics lost their first game of the season 1-0 away at Forest Green last week without even registering a shot on target. But they did follow that up with a 3-2 victory at Boundary Park over Liverpool Under 21s in the Leasing.com Trophy on Wednesday night.

It will be an interesting contest between the sides, with Oldham's new French manager, Laurent Banide, taking control of just his third game for the Club.

Both sides will be desperate to secure their first three points of the Sky Bet League Two season - so don't miss a kick!

Date: Saturday 10 August 2019

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Venue: Boundary Park

Referee: Carl Boyeson

Previous Meeting at Host Club: Oldham 1-1 Crewe (February 2019)

Team News:

Crewe: Olly Lancashire has returned to training this week, but it's considered too soon to risk him this weekend after missing most of pre-season with his groin issue.

Nicky Hunt continues to progress well from his knee problem, but he will definitely miss out at Oldham.

Dave Artell could field the same XI that lost 3-0 to Plymouth last weekend, but he may be tempted to freshen things up after that opening day defeat.

Oldham: Desire Segbe Azankpo suffered an injury in the Leasing.com Trophy match in midweek against Liverpool Under 21s, so he'll be assessed ahead of kick-off.

The Latics made numerous changes for that game in midweek from the side that lost 1-0 at Forest Green on opening day, and the new French Manager may keep the faith with many of his side that helped his team beat Liverpool 3-2.
