Preview: Crewe Face Long Distance Midweek Crawley Test

20 August 2019

Crewe Alexandra head to Crawley Town looking to keep the good momentum rolling after three consecutive victories in the space of a week.

Recovering from an opening day defeat to Plymouth, The Alex have beat Oldham & Walsall in the league & also recorded an impressive Carabao Cup victory over Middlesbrough - with the long midweek trip to the Red Devils now on the agenda.

As a supporter, if you can't make the trip to West Sussex, then the match is the first one this season that will be live streamed on iFollow the Alex - meaning you can watch the game on your laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Click here for more information.

Crawley have had a good start to the new season themselves, winning two of their first four in league & cup. They too suffered an opening day defeat, 2-1 at Carlisle, but went on to beat Salford 2-0 & Walsall 3-2 in the cup before drawing 2-2 at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Gabriele Cioffi's side look a different animal now to the one that Crewe thumped 6-1 at Gresty Road in March & a tough game awaits - with David Artell also look to lay the ghost of Crawley away last season to rest - a game the Alex lost 3-0 having been the better side throughout.

Whether you're going to the game in person or watching on iFollow - it's certainly not one you'll want to miss!

Date: Tuesday 20 August 2019

Competition: Sky Bet League Two

Venue: The People's Pension Stadium

Referee: Tom Nield

Previous Meeting at Host Club: Crawley 3-0 Crewe (November 2018)

Team News:

Crewe: Olly Lancashire is serving his one match suspension following his red card on Saturday, with one of Ryan Wintle, Nicky Hunt, Billy Sass-Davies all in line to deputise.

It's another midweek game amongst a busy schedule for Dave Artell's side, so like the Carabao Cup game at Middlesbrough last Tuesday, he may shake up his team to keep players fresh.

Tune in to the Alex twitter, @crewealexfc, at 6:45pm for the breaking team news.

Crawley: Gabriele Cioffi made a half-time double substitution in the draw at Scunthorpe on Saturday with Panutche Camara & David Sesay being withdrawn early.

That may mean the Crawley gaffer is set to make changes to his side for the Crewe game, with Ollie Palmer & Josh Doherty coming off the bench to make a telling impact against the Iron.
